SYNOPSIS:

Uprooted and untethered—these are the defining characteristics of today’s young Moldovans. Raised by grandparents in the countryside while their parents sought work in the West, they remain psychologically anchored in Soviet-era nostalgia. As Europe’s poorest country, often referred to as ‘the land in between,’ Moldova perpetually vacillates between East and West, past and future. The nation faces constant threat from Russian forces due to the unresolved status of the separatist Transnistria and its sizable Russian minority. Despite the bleak prospects, some Moldovans find purpose in fostering a cultural renaissance. One such individual is Kristyan Panchuk, the protagonist of Metanoia.
